How to Use a Power Cage: The Complete Guide for Home Gym Athletes

What Is a Power Cage?

A power cage (also called a squat rack or power rack) is a steel frame with adjustable safety bars that lets you perform heavy barbell exercises safely without a spotter. It's the most important piece of equipment for serious strength training at home.

The Aznolt® Power Cage with Cable System takes this further by integrating a cable pulley system, giving you access to cable rows, lat pulldowns, tricep pushdowns, and more — all in one unit.

Setting Up Your Power Cage

  1. Assemble on a flat, stable surface — rubber flooring is ideal
  2. Bolt to the floor if possible for maximum stability during heavy lifts
  3. Set J-hooks at the correct height: bar should be at upper-chest level for squats, lower-chest level for bench press
  4. Set safety bars 2–3 inches below your lowest point of movement

Core Power Cage Exercises

Back Squat

The king of all exercises. Set the bar at upper-chest height, step under it, and squat to parallel or below. Safety bars catch the bar if you fail a rep — no spotter needed.

Bench Press

Pair with the Aznolt® Adjustable Weight Bench with Rack for a complete pressing station. Set safety bars just below chest height.

Pull-Ups & Chin-Ups

Most power cages include a pull-up bar at the top. Use it for bodyweight pull-ups, chin-ups, and hanging core work.

Cable Exercises (Aznolt Cable System)

  • Lat Pulldown: Attach a bar to the high pulley, pull to upper chest
  • Seated Cable Row: Attach a handle to the low pulley, row to your midsection
  • Tricep Pushdown: Attach a rope to the high pulley, push down to full extension
  • Cable Curl: Attach a bar to the low pulley, curl upward

Safety Rules

  • Always set safety bars before lifting heavy
  • Never load more weight than you can safely handle
  • Inspect bolts and connections monthly
  • Use collars on the barbell at all times
